Office procedures are diagnostics and treatments performed right at Elite Gynecology Miami practice. Some of the conditions that can be diagnosed or treated in the office include:
Dr. Bardawil also performs in-office procedures that help him diagnose several types of gynecologic cancer.
Dr. Bardawil performs the following procedure at his office:
An endoscopic procedure used to examine the urethra and the bladder and to measure postvoid residue. The procedure is very well tolerated and is done with local anesthesia. The total length of the procedure is about 5-10 minutes and no recovery is needed afterward. You will be given an antibiotic for 3 days.
This procedure uses a hysteroscope, a thin scope with a camera, to see inside your uterus in order to determine the cause of abnormal bleeding. If Dr. Bardawil notices an abnormal growth during a hysteroscopy, he takes a biopsy to send to a lab for analysis. Hysteroscopy is also used to remove polyps and small fibroids in the office, to cut intrauterine adhesions (synechia) and to remove retained (or stuck) IUD. Also, it is used when performing ablation (Novasure ®) in the office. The procedure is very well tolerated and is done with local anesthesia. The total length of the procedure varies from 8 minutes to 15 minutes. Recovery is fast and most patients do not take any time off afterward. You will be given an antibiotic for 3 days.
If you’ve had an abnormal Pap test, Dr. Bardawil may recommend a colposcopy. This procedure involves looking at your cervix with a magnifying instrument called a colposcope to look for any abnormality. A small tissue sample might be biopsied if anything abnormal is visible. The procedure is very tolerated and does not need local anesthesia. The total length of the procedure is 5 minutes and no recovery is needed afterward.
Loop electrosurgical excision procedure, or LEEP, is used to diagnose and treat precancerous cervical cells, a condition known as dysplasia. It involves a tool with a tiny wire loop that’s heated with electricity. The heat makes it easy to remove the affected areas from your cervix for a thorough biopsy and to cure it. The procedure is done under local anesthesia and is very well tolerated. The total length of the procedure is 5 to 10 minutes and no recovery is needed afterward. You will be asked to abstain from intercourse for 4 weeks and you will need a follow-up visit 4 weeks after the procedure.
This procedure uses liquid nitrogen to freeze and remove abnormal lesion on any part of your body. It’s most frequently used to treat genital warts, seborrheic keratosis and other benign skin conditions. The procedure is very tolerated and does not need local anesthesia or recovery. Total length of the procedure is 5 minutes.
Dr. Bardawil performs pelvic ultrasounds in the office to evaluate pelvic pain, heavy periods, postmenopausal bleeding, early pregnancy confirmation and to follow-up on ovarian cysts and fibroids.
Most office procedures take 10 minutes or less to complete. Dr. Bardawil will first discuss with you the procedure in details before it is scheduled. He will review the indication for the procedure, any alternative, and the pros and cons of each. If you need any medication for your procedure, you will be given the medication in the office and you might be asked to come in 30 minutes before your scheduled procedure. Some medications are ordered to your pharmacy (for example antibiotics) and you will be provided with all instructions.
Every procedure is different. Some might need local anesthesia (for example cystoscopy, hysteroscopy and LEEP) while others do not (for example colposcopy, IUD insertion and removal). Also most procedures will be performed within a week of your periods unless you are in menopause or on hormone treatment.
After the procedure, you will be provided with all instructions and expectations.
