Gynecology Q & A

Gynecology is a medical specialty that focuses on the health of a woman’s reproductive system, from adolescence through adulthood to menopause and beyond.

Dr. Bardawil has extensive training and experience in all aspects of gynecology and offers preventive care and treatment for a wide range of gynecologic conditions.

Dr. Bardawil provides comprehensive gynecologic health care, including:

  • Well-woman exams
  • Adolescent care and first exams
  • Family planning and birth control
  • Early fertility evaluation
  • Cancer screenings
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STD) screenings
  • Menopause management
  • Minimally invasive surgery

Dr. Bardawil also offers several in-office procedures to address certain gynecologic conditions.

A Pap test, or a Pap smear, is a screening that can detect changes in the cells of your cervix, which may indicate the presence of precancerous cells or cervical cancer. If you do have abnormal Pap test results, Dr. Bardawil will first discuss your results in details and answer all your questions. He may then perform an in-office procedure called a colposcopy to evaluate the cervix. The procedure is quick and usually painless or minimally uncomfortable and does not require anesthesia or time off. During the procedure, Dr. Bardawil might take small biopsies.

Dr. Bardawil is skilled at the diagnosis and treatment of most gynecologic conditions, including:

  • Vaginal discharge
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Pelvic pain
  • Abnormal bleeding
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Postmenopausal bleeding
  • Endometriosis
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Abnormal pap
  • Painful sex
  • Vulvar pain and disorder (vulvodynia)
  • Interstitial cystitis

Dr. Bardawil also provides bioidentical hormone therapy to control uncomfortable menopause symptoms.

A well-woman exam is an essential part of preventive health care that allows your provider to monitor your reproductive health, address any new symptoms or concerns you may have, and follow up on any existing gynecologic conditions.

Your well-woman exam includes a full body exam, pelvic exam and a breast exam, as well as any health screenings or additional diagnostics you may need. Depending on your age and other individual factors, your well-woman appointment may include:

  • Pap test
  • STD tests
  • Cancer screenings
  • Genetic screening
  • Blood and/or urine tests
  • Gardasil® 9 vaccine for HPV
  • Flu vaccine
  • Pelvic ultrasound
  • Referral for mammogram and colonoscopy

Dr. Bardawil recommends that all women have a well-woman visit every year.

He may recommend that you have more frequent exams and follow-ups if you have a condition that requires ongoing monitoring.
